Environmental damage

I used to walk in the streets of the hometown I grew up breathing and gasping for fresh air and I used to do this since I was very young. Forty years later I am still gasping for fresh air and I feel I can do little to change the environment for the generations to come as I sadly look at construction towers all over when I look out through the window hoping that my home is not the one being demolished, and, hoping I do not get another contravention for some stupid reason that the enforcement agency thinks or deems fit to find me faulty for without recognizing its own errors of interpretation. I still walk in the streets and I find many others who seem human like me, doing the same, breathing so I assume they are conscious of their connection to the environment. These are the goals politicians agreed, but will anyone commit to them?
